Dallas Farmers Market

This morning I headed over to the downtown Dallas Farmers Market. This market is housed under covered sheds with many local farmers and produce dealers selling colorful and delicious fruits and vegetables. They are generous with samples here! The workers at the booth just take their sharp knives and cut you a piece of fruit right there. There is also an indoor shed with a few eateries and bakeries that I’ll save for another trip.  See some photos from the iPhone to give you an idea of what it’s like. I’ll have to go back with a real camera and take some more next time!

Dallas Food Truck Festival

I’m about a month into my life in Dallas and slowly easing into my new job and my new location. A big part of transitioning to a new place for me is to acquaint myself with the local food scene. I’m just beginning this exercise, but one thing I have noticed is that, perhaps unsurprisingly, there are many more fast food taco chains here than in DC. I have to say, I haven’t tried any of them, but I am curious.

What I am excited about is the beginnings of a food truck scene. I’m going to check out the 1st Annual Food Truck Festival at Sigel on Greenville tonight. Looking forward . . . → Read More: Dallas Food Truck Festival

Where you from?

After watching the season finale of The Bachelorette last week, I started to wonder whether there was a relationship between the bachelors’ hometowns and how far they got in the rose ceremonies. I haven’t gotten a chance to do any analysis as of yet, but here’s a fun map using GeoCommons. This map shows the hometowns of the bachelors across seasons according to data from wikipedia. Enjoy!

DC Earthquake!

This morning at about 5 am, the DC area was rocked by a 3.6 magnitude earthquake. I didn’t feel it in McLean, VA, but many people have reported feeling their houses rocking. Check out this map I made in GeoCommons. The map shows the earthquake location as reported by USGS and the number of people who reported feeling the earthquake (the bigger the blue circle, the more people). The USGS aggregates people’s responses in their cool “Did you feel it?” section on the website.

Summertime…

It has been quite a while since I’ve posted. In fact, I have now finished half of my MBA education! This first year has flown by; being a student really throws you into a different world. I love being on a university campus where conversations and activities revolve around learning and expanding how I think about and discuss issues. Being a student provides access to so many resources that are often hard to get once you step away from school, so I am doing my best to take full advantage of all the opportunities.  One of my classmates put it this way, I am taking a liberal arts approach to the . . . → Read More: Summertime…

Term A comes to a close…

It’s hard to believe, but half of the first semester is over!  That’s right, I am 12.5% done with my MBA education!  I have the Managerial Economics final to look forward to on Monday, followed by a midterm exam on Leadership on Tuesday, and the Financial Accounting midterm to round out exam week on Wednesday.

Aside from exams, I have been enjoying student life and remembering what it’s like to study, learn, and ask questions.  The most challenging part of the semester so far has been a lesson in time management and prioritizing…what to study, how much time to allot to assignments, which clubs to join, and which activities to take part . . . → Read More: Term A comes to a close…

It’s my birthday, I can eat pie if I want to…

My birthday coconut cream pie from Straight from the Pie Hole by Chrissy!  This pie was creamy and fluffy with just the right amount of coconut-y sugary goodness inside a flaky crust.  It was a perfect birthday pie, so delicious that I am still thinking about it 3 months later.  Pie Gourmet…watch out!
